Heatmiser disbanded prior to the release of Mic City Sons, prompting Virgin to put the album out inauspiciously through its independent arm, Caroline Records. A clause in Heatmiser's record contract with Virgin meant that Smith was still bound to it as an individual. Reply

Heatmiser's finest, Mic City Sons is an eclectic collection of music packed with fun riffs and powerful messaging which are both typical of Heatmiser. A definite reccomendation for anyone who enjoys indie sound superior to most of what is available/5(22). Reply

HEATMISER MIC CITY SONS. Label: The wow tracks are considered to excel in one way or another so they’re rated the highest which results in a better album score. The top pick is considered to be the very best track on the album. 1. "Get Lucky" "Pop in G" high energy, low feeling, low complexity. Reply

The quartet's finest and final album, Mic City Sons features a decidedly more pop feel than its predecessors and marks Smith 's maturation into the role of the band's visionary. Reply

Released as the band was in the process of splitting up, Mic City Sons not only captures that formative moment, but also a style of alt-rock that spent the early ’90s moving from the underground to the mainstream. Particularly great are “Pop in G” and “See You Later,” whose blend of quiet angst and Beatlesesque hooks play like sun breaking through the gray of Smith’s Pacific Northwest skies. Reply

The title of the album is taken from a line in the ninth track, "Pop in G": "Mic city sons seem to dumb everything down". On the album's style, Michael Frey of AllMusic noted "a decidedly more pop feel than its predecessors". Release. Mic City Sons was released on October 29, through Virgin Records sub-label Caroline. Mic City Sons is easily Heatmiser's best album. Elliott Smith's contributions to the disc are outstanding. The songs he wrote for Mic City Sons are some of his best, and the band gives them an edge that wouldn't have been found on his solo records. Neil Gust's contributions are strong as well. Reply
