By , Chopin had completed his Sonata for Piano in B-flat minor, op. 35, about which Robert Schumann’s criticism sparked a reaction that set “the pattern for most later criticisms of Chopin: an acknowledgment of imaginative power along with an assertion of technical limitations.”7 Schumann described Chopin’s Sonata no. 2 for Piano. This CD gets a lot of use at my house and is an important part of my quiet time most days of the week. I am familiar with most of the music pieces which makes it even nicer. If you'd like to start or add to your cd collection, "25 Piano Favorites" is a great choice especially for the price.2/5(3). Reply

On Disc 3 of a 3-disc set of Alfred Cortot’s “Great Chopin Recordings" (Andromeda) you get essentially the same program (Preludes, op. 28) and the 4 Ballades played by the old wizard with practically the same tempos in much more nuanced and graceful performances, (to me, at /5(4). Reply

May 17,  · Chopin returned the favor, however, in with the publication of his Ballade No. 2 in F Major, Op 38 dedicated to Robert Schumann. Unlike Kreisleriana, Chopin’s second ballade isn’t usually celebrated as one of his best piano works–because it isn’t. Though I will say that some of his best music can be found in the coda. Reply

The trio of Chopin's scherzo is a humdinger of a cello tune, sung with heart, soul and passion by Rostropovich. Schumann's adagio section is likewise given the 'mit innigem Ausdruck' treatment, and when matters turn 'Rasch und feurig' the playing is simply thrilling/5(12). Reply
